Our patients see a 60-80% improvement in their diabetes, often within hours of the operation. This is not related to weight loss, but the hormonal changes after bariatric surgery. 70% will see a complete cure in their diabetes with bariatric surgery.

RELIEF OF DEPRESSION & JOINT PAIN

For each pound lost, each knee is offloaded of 4 pounds of stress. Additionally, in patients who do require knee or hip replacement in the future, bariatric surgery will help them to recover quicker and better from those operations.

At least 50% of our patients see a complete cure in their sleep apnea in the first year after surgery, virtually all patients will see a notable improvement.

HOW IS RECOVERY AFTER BARIATRIC SURGERY?

Most patients spend 1 night in the hospital, occasionally 2. Pain lasts a few days and around 90% of patients never need narcotic pain medication.

ARE THERE AGE CUTOFFS FOR BARIATRIC SURGERY?

There is no hard age cut off. We operate as young as 18, but we certainly need to make sure people are healthy enough for surgery as they get older.

WHAT SHOULD PEOPLE LOOK FOR IN A BARIATRIC SURGEON?
Experience is everything. The surgeon should be able to offer a wide range of procedures and recommend what is best for you and your long-term goals.
HOW MUCH WEIGHT DO PEOPLE LOSE WITH BARIATRIC SURGERY?

Most patients will lose 60-80% of their excess weight with surgery. The translates to 100-200 pounds for most of our patients. We’ve seen up to 400 lbs. of weight loss before.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF BARIATRIC SURGERY?

Surgery is incredibly low risk as we ensure that our patients are healthy enough for an operation. In general, the risks of the procedure depend on the type of the operation and the specific patient. Vitamin deficiencies are rare.

WHAT WILL LIFE BE LIKE AFTER BARIATRIC SURGERY?
Virtually all long-term studies show improved quality of life after surgery. Without diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, or joint pain, who wouldn’t be better able to enjoy their lives after surgery?
