Dr. Rebecca Barr

Dr. Rebecca Barr brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in bariatrics and general surgery to the DFW Bariatrics and General Surgery team. She is a dedicated professional, passionate about providing the best care to her patients and helping them achieve their health and wellness goals.

Dr. Barr completed her undergraduate studies with a B.S. in Biology and minors in Art and Anthropology from Brandeis University. She then pursued her medical degree from the McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Following her medical degree, Dr. Barr undertook her internship at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL, and her General Surgery Residency at Saint Louis University in Saint Louis, MO. 

Further enhancing her expertise, she completed her Bariatric and Advanced GI/MIS Fellowship at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, NJ.

Throughout her academic and professional journey, Dr. Barr has been involved in various research and teaching roles. She has had a prominent teaching role throughout her time in medical school and throughout residency culminating in a Grand Rounds Lecture on Education Theory in Current Surgical Education. She has contributed to several publications in the field of surgery and continues to better her practice with ongoing projects in quality improvement and patient outcomes optimization. Her research work has been recognized and presented at esteemed conferences, including the SAGES Annual Meeting.

In addition to her academic and clinical achievements, Dr. Barr has been an active member of professional organizations such as SAGES, TMA, ACS, and ASMBS. Her leadership roles include serving as the Administrative Chief of Public Relations at Saint Louis University and a Founding Co-President of the Saint Louis Women in Surgery Collaborative. 

Dr. Barr holds certifications in ACLS/BLS, ATLS, FLS/FES/FUSE, and Intuitive Robotic proficiency. She is also awaiting decisions on her SAGES Advanced GI MIS fellowship certification and ASMBS fellowship certification.
